Mama Shelter’s first UK outpost can be found in the heart of Bethnal Green, just a short walk from both the overground and tube. An open-plan wonder with funky furnishings, shelves filled with statement objects and ceilings that are equally as bold as the carpets. The restaurant and bar fill most of the room downstairs, where you can expect comfy tables for all sizes, TVs showing old cartoons, an eclectic assortment of lampshades and free arcade games. Another bar can be found in the greenhouse in the middle of the room – a nod to the rooftop bars at their other hotels, complete with a retractable roof and outdoor-style seating. The wine list includes a large amount of organic options, plus there’s ‘Mama’s Cellar’ for something a little bit more special and cocktails that we were pleased to see use a lot of local spirits and all have names that salute the surrounding area.
