My first shift ever was at Schumann's Tagesbar in Munich.
I was only 16 years old, I'd never held a tray in my hand before and didn't know anything about drinks or hospitality. I started on the floor and the first drinks I served were two glasses of Champagne for two, in my eyes, very fancy looking ladies. As I reached their table I dropped one of the glasses and spilt it all over them. Not a great start!
My first job in London was at 69 Colebrooke Row. It definitely went better than my first ever shift, however, I still had the feeling that I didn't know anything about drinks and hospitality because the guys there just work on a different level.
That's one of the things I love about this industry, always learning. But even more - I love it when the bar is buzzing - when you can tell that the guests are happy and having a great time.
